Our students have the right to share their ideas digitally and they also have the right to feel safe in this digital world. We need to encourage them to use the internet and social media for the right reasons and we also need to be 100% certain that they understand netiquette and follow the “laws” of the internet. We need to show them how to be safe, how to determine what is factual and what is not, who a troll might be, how to avoid scams, and how to chat with others appropriately. I agree with this sentiment: If you would not say it to their face, then don’t type it either! Privacy is the best policy...never feel pressured to share anything you are uncomfortable with.
