I believe schools have a limited responsibility when it comes to the digital world. It is almost impossible for districts to block all of the websites available on the Internet. Students in this district access Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Netflix, Youtube, and several game sites that students seem to be almost addicted to. Our district has blocked some of these sites, but it seems as though we can never catch up to what the students are accessing. Some teachers use social media for communication and lessons with students, so there is some educational value. As a staff, I think we should teach students how to respond appropriately on social media and how to use it properly. We also need to teach them how to be responsibly and what the consequences are for violating other people’s rights.
