Norms and Responsibilities

Debbie Holstein
We can equip our students with everything they need to know about rights and responsibilities and being good digital citizens, but there will always be students/adults who will think the norms don't apply.  We recently had a student who was angry with an aide who reprimanded in a class.  He looked her up on Facebook, found a not so flattering picture of her and sent it to several others.  Did the student get in trouble?  No.  The teenager accomplished his mission of embarrassing the aide and also causing distress to her kids.

Wow, that was nervy of the student!  There should be some sort of school policy which addresses this.

Are the actions of this student considered bullying? It was intended to and did cause harm.

Do you ever feel like eliminating some social media/ phones in high school would eliminate half of the issues we have? Also, what age do you think you should start teaching students about it?
