As a Guidance Counselor at an Elementary School, I am very concerned about teachings kids as early as possible how to treat people on the internet. In my lessons we practice having appropriate face to face conversations and solving problems with peers. How to disagree fairly, etc. I think kids do not know how to do these things because they are exposed at an earlier and earlier age to technology.
Parents have a responsibility to monitor their child's technology use and be aware of what they are posting and what is in their browser history.
Lastly, the other thing I hit on hard with kids is "How would you treat someone face to face?" Does what you say to someone behind a screen match what you would say if they were standing in front of you?" If the answer is "no" then don't say it. The riles for the digital world should be similar for the rules in life.
