I think we have an obligation as teachers to instruct students how to be a responsible and respectful digital citizen. Students are having access at a very early age to the internet, thus we need to begin teaching them at a young age how to navigate safely. We spend a lot of time teaching our students how to be respectful to one another in the classroom and on the playground as they are face to face with their peers. However, when students are able to express their thoughts and opinions without being face to face to someone, it is much easier, as they do not directly see the ramifications of their words. We also have to help students be aware of the dangers of other adults on the internet and how to be careful what personal information they put out there for others to access.
