PL Artifact - Nancy Healy

Nancy Healy
My artifact is an infographic that links to categories that I feel, after working through our 28-day course, are fundamental to providing a successful personalized learning experience for my students. You can find my infographic here -- https://infograph.venngage.com/p/230905/healy-personal-learning-pathway.  In the infographic, click on "More Info" under each category to find detailed explanations of each category.

My goal was to find strategies and resources that will help me guide my students through their own personalized learning paths while meeting standards, and more importantly, tapping into student interests. In order for my learning to make sense to me (and hopefully you), I first came up with six categories that I wanted to focus on most—encouraging Student Engagement, providing a Flexible Learning Environment, respecting Learner Differences, assessing Student Progression, incorporating Standards, and listing Technology Tools. Then as I found strategies and resources during my research, I would put them into one or more of the categories. By doing this, I was able to see how, where and why important elements of personalized learning could fit into personalized learning pathways. For example, formative assessments play an essential role for several reasons. Not only do formative assessments help the teacher monitor student understanding (and frustration levels) to ensure students are on the right path to meeting standards, they also promote student directed learning by helping students consider where they are at and where they want to go in their pathways.  Formative assessments also meet students at their individual needs and differences.

I chose to go with an infographic because I want a quick and easy resource that I can refer back to when I need to find information about a specific area of personalized learning. I also plan on sharing this infographic with several teachers in my school district who are just getting started with personalized learning.  I found so much good information about personalized learning, and there is more information that I want to take some time to look at.  So my plan is to add information to the infographic as I come across it.
