What speaks to you?
I believe that arts integration is such a great way to do cross curricular activities and build upon each aspect of both areas.
I also think that VTS gets students thinking at a deeper level. As a teacher I would love this, because it is a self taught discussion...and I am constantly learning from the students during self taught discussions.
Does it give you any ideas?
VTS gives me ideas on how to use the same concept only with listening skills. For instance, lead them in a discussion on a kandinsky piece while seeing the visual representation as well. I like how, in the video, the gentleman said he was even surprised by the younger students. At first he didn't think they were capable, but realized quickly that they had great ideas too.
How do you integrate art into your current curriculum?
I really like the ideal of teaching fractions with whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. I already teach music math, but this takes that to a deeper level that I really enjoy. Math and music are my thing!
Other reactions?
I truly believe if we could get all teachers to do a little arts integration in their curriculum and encourage them to work with us, then the students would benefit greatly!
