What speaks to you?
I like the idea of having discussions with students about what they see in various works of art. This is a great way to help students develop and grow various skills, such as observation, questioning, analyzing, speculating, categorizing, fact-finding, and personal association. They don't even realize that they are even working on any skills. They are simply focused on talking about what they see.
Does it give you any ideas?
This idea of discussing artwork would translate well to how discussions about stories should be conducted. Students discussing artwork were able to point to the evidence in the artwork that led them to draw a conclusion about some aspect of that work. I would love to be able to have students put that much effort into discussing a story as they did if they were discussing what they see in artwork.
How do you integrate art into your current curriculum?
I have not had the opportunity to integrate art into any curriculum. As a substitute teacher, I typically carry out the lessons the classroom teacher has planned. However, I will hopefully be able to plan my own lessons this coming school year.
