From a very young age, parents and teachers model and explain over and over the difference between right choices and wrong choices. We need to teach students that if it is wrong to do in the classroom then it is wrong to do it on the internet. It is important that educators emphasize that things posted on the internet are public not private and that things posted on the internet can spread significantly faster than things spread by word of mouth or by physical papers or flyers. Also, things posted on the web can be more easily misinterpreted compared to when you say the exact same words in person. In person, you are able to emphasize different points to express your message more clearly with your voice inflections and facial expressions. These things need to be explicitly taught and not something that is naturally understood.
