I tell my own children and students they should never post something on the internet that they wouldn't tell someone face to face. Basically, if you would be embarrassed or ashamed of a grandparent or other family member seeing a picture you posted or a comment you made then it is not something you should post on the internet.
It is fine to have an opinion on a subject, but hurting yourself or others to voice it is not a good idea. You are just as responsible for your actions on the internet (cyberbullying or harrassment) as you are face to face.
Once something is "out there" it is very difficult to retrieve.
