Rights, Norms, Responsibilities

It touches here on a sensitive issue, the right to free speech. While allowing for students to exert that right, it is our responsibility as educators to ensure that students understand their responsibilities within that realm. In teaching for understanding the acceptable societal norms and how they also should apply to online conduct, we must make sure they can also differentiate between face to face conduct and that which occurs behind a screen. Of course, ignorance of the law is no excuse, therefore, the expectations for our students are must be clear and concise and presented to students as such.
