I believe as a user, you have the right for your information to stay private when it is recquired to enter it in certain social media sites. I feel it is the users responsibility to use the web in the correct manner. Students need to be over educated on responsible usage and once their pictures or information is out there and unsecure, then anyone is could see it or use it. I'm currently working with my 12 year old daughter on the do's and don'ts of social media.
