Rights and Responsibilities

As we enter into this realm it is important to help ourselves and the learners understand that digital technology for learning and communication(social media) is both a tremendous tool and potentially a dangerous one at the same time.  Yes, we have the right to freedom of expression but at the same time there are things that should not be said because they could harm or disrespect others or ourselves.  Warren Buffet suggests to his employees what he calls the front page test.  If you knew that what you have said or done is going to be on the front page of the newspaper tomorrow, would you still say it or do it.  It is important to think about this, because the right of privacy no longer really exists in the digital world.  If you text it or email it or post a picture it is there for potentially EVERYONE to see.  So if you want it kept private do not post it!  The events of the U.S. government personnel database hacks and the credit card hacks(Target as an example) show us that we must use discretion in our digital lives!
