I believe that educating students from an early age on responsibilities in using the internet and that they are creating a "digital footprint" for all to see. Partnering with parents, attempting to be on the same page, with the same message, can be helpful for students to avoid mistakes. This is not only for the issues of posting inappropriate material, for example, but also for reminders that future employers can have access to information that could affect job placement. Parents can restrict access to a certain extent on cell phones, as another example, to help teach responsible behavior and/or allow/restrict additional access. Rights may have limits obviously if illegal and/or dangerous activities are utilized online.
