I think it should be required to address digital citizenship education at the beginning of each school year with students. Just as the digital world is expanding and changing so are the benefits and the struggles with handling these benefits in an appropriate way. It will be an ongoing need to discuss this with our kids. Our students don't think before they participate in the digital world sometimes. They need to know anything they do online or post in social media will be a part of their digital footprint forever. Parents need to get involved in teaching this to their children but the school has an equally important role in teaching this as we know many of our students are skilled in technology at a much higher level than their parents. It takes a village.
