Where have you heard, seen or read about situations in which user rights and responsibilities have been abused in the digital world? What might the user have done differently?
One of the scariest things I think of when I think about rights and responsibilities when it comes to the digital world is privacy. Privacy is a constant battle, with a persons data being collected and potentially misused by governments and corporations. The internet and digital platforms have become reliant on collecting and analyzing user data, often for targeted advertising and other commercial purposes.
Every time I shop for something new I am inundated with ads on every social media platform as well as search engine. While it is sometimes useful it is also very concerning that every key stroke I make could be recorded and used. I have no idea what I can do about this.
One of the scariest stories/news pieces I have seen is where people were gaining access to smart tv's and computers cameras and audio. Communicating with kids without the kids even being on-line. That is a very scary situation. They reported it to the police but no sure if they ever caught the people responsible. Making sure you have a secure nework and your setting are correct on devices may help reduce risk.
