Rights and responsibilities

I think,besides having freedom of speech and privacy as a right when you are using technology, that safety should also be a right. When you are surfing the web or checking your e-mail, you should feel safe to do so. You should not have to worry that you may be hacked, spied upon, or even stalked.

It is a parent or educator's responsibility to make sure that children using the internet are knowledgeable enough to be able to detect risky or inappropriate behaviors and to have the skills not to commit risky or inappropriate behavior themselves.

I agree, our students do need to be taught how to look for those who don't have their best interest.  We as educators need to be reminded that most social media is created for adults.  Facebook was not created just for kids, it was created for adults.   Adults are the target audience  we have the money to spend on their ads.
