Summary of Concepts and Terminology

Shannon Benjamin
What was new learning?
I read that lines are not natural in nature, that they are created by man.  I had never thought of that before and as I sit here thinking, the only “line” I can visualize in nature that might be straight is a horizon line over water, like an ocean, or on a very flat landscape.

What was review?
The color wheel, texture, contrasts, balance, proportion, and value are all terms I have studied before in former art appreciation classes.

How can I use what I learned in my class?
I have to take an idea I read in this discussion about lines.  Using one color to draw feelings could be very helpful for my PreK students.  Thick, angry scribbles could convey anger or fear.  Soft spirals or flowing lines may convey peaceful or happy feelings.  Using art to express emotions at a young age might be very beneficial.
