Thoughts on Gmail in my classroom

Maureen Anderson
I have used Gmail for personal reasons but not for professional reasons because I thought it was just another email service. Boy, was I wrong! I didn’t realize it had so many useful features. We are moving to a 1:1 computer usage system this fall so I see Gmail as an efficient way to have students submit their daily bell ringers, test reviews, and other assignments. Being able to label the assignments and filter them into folders will save me the time of having to do just that. The same is true of emails from parents. I’m hopeful the tech department doesn’t derail my plans because I haven’t seen these features in our current email service. We’ll see this fall, I guess.

I've been looking at tutorials on YouTube to help my students with special needs understand how to set up filters and labels (plus other skills) and I've found I really enjoy Steve Dotto's videos the most. Search for dottotech. Here's an example, for those who are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1FhChWmCYc
