When I approach this question in terms of my students, I believe they need to understand that everyone has the RIGHT to an opinion. They can and should embrace their own beliefs and feel comfortable and confident sharing them in a public forum, including online. However, everyone also has the RESPONSIBILITY to protect themselves and others from harm, which means not sharing personal identification information (location, important account info, etc.) in an insecure format, and not participating in any harmful or hateful communication in any way.
