User rights in the digital world

The idea that rights come with responsibility is a powerful one, especially in reference to the unprecedented freedom that our students are experiencing in the digital world.  It truly is the wild west and unfortunately it changes faster than most of us and keep up with.  With the ability to broadcast one's thoughts at any time, with no time required for measured thought, we need to understand the effects that our language might have on others.  We also need to exercise patience with younger people who might post something without much though to how they are hurting someone else.
