Hi everyone,
I’m Alex, and outside of studying I run a small
thrift shop vintage clothing brand online, which has unexpectedly become a great source of material for thinking about art concepts and terminology. When you handle different eras of clothing every day, you start to notice texture, line, shape, pattern, colour theory, and even ideas like contrast, balance, and rhythm in a very hands-on way.
I’m curious how others might connect everyday objects to art concepts in an elementary classroom. For example, I’ve thought about using photos of vintage outfits to talk about warm vs. cool colours, symmetry in design, or cultural context in visual choices.
How have you used real-world items—like clothes, toys, packaging, or music videos—to make abstract art terms more concrete and memorable for students?
