YouTube Ideas

Wendy Reyes
I use my colleague's YT channel that contains videos he has created to teach concepts in our Everyday Math program.  He created the videos this summer, and they have been so helpful during this time of hybrid and online teaching.

I also use YT to introduce historical information about settings in books that we use in 6th grade. For example Refugee by Alan Gratz, YT videos give my students background on the voyage of the St. Louis during WWII, the Cuban raft exodus in 1994, and the Syrian War that has been going on since 2011.  Another example is the setting of The Night Diary which takes place in Pakistan and India during the Partition of 1947. The videos I've found really help kids who are very unfamiliar with these times.

We also follow the CNN10 channel which we watch every morning for current events and fun, interesting information presented just for middle and high school kids.  It is totally unbiased, so this channel is great to use!
