I have used YouTube as part of the Google Education Suite for several years now. I have students that speak over 15 different first languages, so very often they need some additional explanation that I cannot provide. YouTube has enable me to find videos that can show students the concepts in their first language without scouring libraries or subscribing to expensive services. Of course the caveat is that you have to determine this information is credible.
I also use YouTube for class presentations, our more shy students can make videos of their presentations and we put them on YouTube with private links so the public cannot see the videos but students with the link are able to view them. Most kids have YouTube channels that they follow or are fans of, so the opportunity to make their own YouTube video is motivating to them.
To improve my teaching, I follow a channel called Langfocus. It gives background information on many languages around the world so I can determine how to develop the best learning approach for students that use that language.
