I am a substitute teacher, but I also serve as a pastor and work with youth at our church. We are considering doing a mission trip where they would need to raise funds to pay for their travel and incidental expenses, and I think that would be a great opportunity to introduce the youth to concepts from financial literacy such as budgeting, income sources, and tracking expenses, etc. It's amazing how many youth do not seem to think much about budgeting or doing anything with money other than earning it so it can be spent. My experience has been that most youth do not spend much time talking with their parents about money, and so they are generally unaware of anything other than cashing their paycheck and spending it.
