As a music teacher, gmail would be a great tool to communicate with parents come concert time. Details for the concert, expectations for students, and an educational piece on appropriate concert behavior could be sent out. Rewards could be given to students whose parents respond to the email as a way of boosting accountability for appropriate concert etiquette.
Another idea is to use groups to communicate with specific orchestra sections, giving at-home practice assignments, etc.
