One of the negative sides to digital media is that it is hard to determine someone's tone of voice or or other more subtle social cues through a Facebook post, email, etc.  This results in a lot of miscommunication that can escalate into larger issues and can cause a lot of hurtful things to be said.  It is much easier for people to make negative and hurtful comments to someone through digital media than it is face-to-face.  One example of this is bullying in schools.  Cyber bullying can quickly escalate and draw other student in that might otherwise not have gotten involved or may have tried to intervene in a face-to-face situation.
