I was very hesitant to set up a personal Facebook account as a teacher because I have seen others pages where teachers had students as friends, and I didn't think some of the items they posted were appropriate for students to view. I decided to do a joint account with my husband, however to keep up with my family. My sister had just had a new baby and shared pictures through Facebook since she lived three hours away. My husband I were careful about who we friended due to both of our jobs. I didn't even friend one of my nephews until he was out of high school since he attended the school where I teach. I don't put inappropriate post on, but I can not control what others do. That is where I had a situation occur. I had a nephew who was in college at the time. I had accepted his friend request since he was family. Eventually, I had to unfriend him. He would put what I felt were inappropriate pictures and posts on Facebook. My daughters would look at pictures of my niece on line with me, and I never wanted to take the chance of them seeing something that they shouldn't. I reminded my nephew, who was a teaching major at the time, to be careful what he posted on Facebook because employers will check up on you social media presence. Today, I am still very hesitant to friend people on Facebook today other than family and close friends; not because of what I post, but because what my children or others might view from others that have gotten onto my feed.
