Early in my teaching career, I emailed a co-worker regarding a student. I was appropriate with my description of my concerns regarding the student, but I really only perceived that my correspondence would be between myself and the email recipient. It was not. My colleague, meaning no ill-will, replied and cc'ed another colleague about the matter to assist me with my concern. It was fine, but I was honestly not happy that someone else was brought in on this exchange. If I would have know this were to happen, I would have written the email differently and provided more context. Again, I was appropriate with my description of my concerns regarding the student, but more context would've put me in a more positive light. It all ended up fine, I explained my concerns in more detail in over the phone to the new email recipient, and it taught me to always presume that any email I send can and/or will get forwarded.
