Inappropriate student use that I’ve seen typically involves misuse of class time. The most common uses are students playing games (such as Clash of Clans), engaging with social media (selfies, Tik Tok, Snapchat), and text messaging friends/others during class learning time. Sometimes such distraction is largely individual, but sometimes these behaviors distract classmates or end up disrespectful to classmates who are speaking. Redirection is a daily part of the classroom, shifting students attention back to content. Rather than a simple no use mindset, I believe we need to provide responsible education on how to use these online opportunities.
