norms and responsibilities

I keep reading in other posts, and I'm concerned, too, about privacy, but how can anybody expect any level of it when interacting within something named the World Wide Web?  Sometimes, including now, I feel like I should do nothing more than watch and listen (yes, be a creeper). Can that be my responsibility, to keep myself to myself?
