Penelope, in regards to the quiz question about complementary colors not being across from each other, you are/were correct in your thinking.  This question bugged me also, and upon further attempts and testing, one I was misspelling complementary as "complimentary" and I was also missing the word colors.  The response had to be exactly "complementary colors"  this was an error on the creators part in not including multiple correct responses.
