I am a Para-Educator working in High School Special Education Room. our students are at the elementary level so we didn't get to deep.    At the Beginning of this semester we started a Banking Unit with the few students we have.  We first discussed what monthly bills that most people have; electric, groceries, water, garbage, cable, gas, rent/mortgage, and insurance.
We talked about having to have a job(full time or part time) to pay your bills and then how to budget their money.  They opened up a false bank/savings account and a few times a week for their lesson they would have to pay a bill by filling out a check register, balance their checkbook, deposit money by filling out a deposit slip and every paycheck we would encourage them to add money their savings account and talked about why a saving account was important.    Teaching that having a job and paying your bills is important at all ages.
