While reading the three articles I found myself thinking of my students in my classroom. I was thinking of all the times that we couldn't get to our art protect because I needed more time to get ready for testing, to teach that standard or how we are limited on supplies. The articles really hit the topic that in schools today the arts are not important. What is extremely important to administrators and the government is reading and math.

My biggest take away from the articles is that the importance of the arts will probably not rise in our country for awhile. With that being said it is my job as the teacher to try and incorporate the arts into my teaching of the standards. Teaching first grade I have many students that can struggle to express themselves through their writing or even with their words, but once given crayons or markers can make their thoughts come to life. Children are happy when working with the arts, they love to express the pictures they've created in their head. It is our jobs as their teachers to make sure that they are allowed to express themselves in all ways possible.
