I teach 7th grade social studies. Financial literacy and economics plays a role in every major historic event. Understanding how different cultures use their money and resources provides key incite into what the people of that culture value. For example, when a culture like Ancient Egyptians builds massive pyramids for burial, students can figure out that their religion, particularly their thoughts on the afterlife, was all-important to their society. Another way, financial literacy can be used in a 7th grade classroom, is when talking about our own government and policies. Money shapes many governmental decisions, so teaching how the government spends our money is very important.
