I went into my twitter account which I never use and changed some of the privacy and security settings.  This is what I checked.
Do not allow anyone to tag me in photos
Protect my tweets
Only allow people I follow to add me to their team
As far as Facebook, I deleted my account a couple of years ago, as it occurred to me then what an invasion of privacy it could be.  Plus I was sick of looking at people complaining about the weather, being sick, or just posting ridiculous stuff.  Personally it was a waste of time for me on an already tight schedule.  To each their own.
