One of the things I am famous for explaining to my students is "just because you CAN post/share something doesn't mean you SHOULD." Teaching students what should and should not be shared is important. They need to realize that their digital footprint can become quite large. I also feel that empathy toward the people depicted in social media can be an educational opportunity that should be embraced. Oftentimes my students don't think about the possibility of consequences for posting violence on line and the impact it has.
