Giving students the tools and competencies to be responsible, respectful digital citizens is definitely a critical component of modern education, which will only increase as we move forward into the 21st century.  Students should be empowered to recognize their right to access information in a safe environment. They have the right to privacy, and the right to make their thoughts and opinions heard. With these rights, they need to recognize their responsibility to maintain a respectful tone in their digital interactions, as well as to report anything unsafe they encounter.
