There are a couple of good threads that talk about financial literacy in music classes.  Below are my ideas, some of them inspired by other posters:

     --Purchasing vs. renting an instrument
     --Budgeting a class trip
     --Fundraising for a class trip
     --Paying for a show choir set of costumes
     --Producing a musical (including, but not limited to, costumes, performance rights, set development, choreographers, orchestra members, singing lessons, lighting, sound reinforcement and props)
     --Purchasing uniforms or robes
     --Purchasing classroom equipment
