Forum Post 5: Discussion for Assignment #9
What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
There are a number of things that can enhance a career, art is definitely one of them. Not every person thinks and sees things the same. Taking the time to see others’ thought processes and how they interpret ideas can be shown thru the use of art. It teaches us to look beyond the norm or task at hand and understand that creativity is important in many career fields. It is engaging and helps us think outside the box.
What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art? Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom?
I am fortunate to have each of my students have access to chromebooks throughout the day so I am trying to utilize this as much as I can. I introduced students to Sketchup and they love it. We use it in Math working with 3D shapes and they love exploring. It is a great way for students to understand spatial reasoning and apply things proportionally.
What are your "takeaways" from the article and videos?
I really enjoyed the Thread Drawing video. I love abstract art. It allows students who don’t feel they are very artistic to create something that doesn’t have to look like anything at all. It also allows for great differentiated expression, providing thread, yarn, and other mediums gives students the ability to push themselves and create some amazing individual works.
I found the videos very interesting and believe that every student has wonderful abilities when we add music and art in the mix of regular classwork. The twice exceptional students video was really neat. Allowing those students to create music with other students empowered them and made them feel like they belonged.
