Compare Scientist-Classroom Case

The first video I watched was about Liquid Materials Size Investigations.

The scientist has a background that our students do not.  We must take this into consideration as they are the experts.  The scientist focuses on using objective facts and did not relay on subjective observations or expected outcomes.  Although she used the sense of feel (weight), this was just the first step. She also described knowing the difference between volume the shape of the container.  She also used mathematical processes.  The scientist also looked at each specimen through a scientific lens where she described the volume using cubes as a measure.

The students in the grade 4 Eliciting Ideas:  The kids are able to freely discuss their ideas based upon their previous experiences and knowledge.  They are artfully guided by the teacher to give each an opportunity to voice, discuss, and refine their ideas.
