DC Internet Safety

I googled what privacy settings should be set to and went through the list.  Most of the settings I had already done.

I didn't know people could search for me based on my phone number so that has been turned off.

I don't friend students until they have been out of school at least a year, and feel I am pretty selective about who I friend.  However, a few days ago a friend sent a friend request who was already my friend.  I figured she could not log into her account and set up a new one.  I have since unfriended that one and have messaged her to see if that was the situation.

In one of the videos it said it is good to have a social media presence to lessen the chance of someone impersonating an individual.

Since I'm never quite sure which setting are adequate, googling sounds like a good idea.

I heard the message about a site to protect your identity, too! I'm conflicted on that, especially with younger students. I know more and more people use this information to create an account and impersonate you. I'm just not sure how comfortable I am with sharing that fact with my students, especially elementary age.
