Energy Standard

Amanda Buck
The standard I chose was 5-PS3-1, Use models to describe that energy in animals’ food (used for body repair, growth, motion, and to maintain body warmth) was once energy from the sun.
The SEP for the standard is developing and using models. Students will use models to describe the phenomena. From the video I found that by creating models students could explain this system of energy flow. The model is a way for them to make sense of the phenomena.
The DCIs include energy in chemical processes and everyday life and organization for matter and energy flow in organisms. This can be taught through the process of how plants create their own food. Then move into animals and how animals need plants to survive. After that you can move more towards the minerals we get from the ground and the air.
The CCC is that energy and matter. What students need to know is that energy flows through a system and is conserved over time. In the video it is explained that energy and matter input and output will always be conserved. He addresses the many misconceptions surrounding energy and matter including the belief that food contains energy.

This DCI is electromagnetic radiation geometry dash lite. Light reflected from an object's surface can be perceived if it reaches the eye.
