The standard I have selected is PS3-1: - Use evidence to construct an explanation relating the speed of an object to the energy of the object.
SEP- Construct explanations using evidence obtained through observation.
DCI- Energy manifest itself through phenomena such as motion. The faster a given object is moving, the more energy it possesses.
CCC- Energy can be transferred in various ways and between objects.
Through this standard, students should become aware of the single entity called energy. They should be allowed to observe the display of energy in the form of motion and compare the speed of motion to determine which object has more or less energy. It should be distinguished that energy is not force but is needed to create force. Also, energy is conserved in objects even if they are at rest. Energy cannot be created or destroyed.
