By far one of my favorite groups on FB is The Science of Reading- What I should have Learned in College. This group has both educators and researchers involved, and creates a great space to ask questions and get information about solving problems in local school context. For example, teachers may ask- is this product or this product better? You get both crowd-sourced opinions and information from respected researchers like Matt Burns who share the stats on process or programs that are more/less effective. There's also a parallel group for Administrators that I just found out about.
I've only recently begun to understand the difference between accounts and pages. I belong to many groups, and use FB the most of apps, but pages allows me to follow along and support schools that I have worked with. For example, I like to follow Royal Legacy Christian Academy and their ground-breaking work in Waterloo to become an accredited private school. I'm interested in creating a page for my new consulting firm, which helps with questions I had about mushing personal and professional life together- which I would like to avoid/be conscious of.
There's a lot one can do on FB, and I'm interested to see how it may change. Obviously a lot fewer young people are on here, and even some of my researcher friends have left the platform. What started as a fun way to see each other's families over long distance has naturally become much more complicated and at times controversial. I still enjoy it, and appreciate the resources in this AEA module.
