Facebook

Kathryn Loew
I mostly use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family.  However, I am a 2nd grade teacher, so I also use a closed group (Mrs. Loew's 2nd Grade) to keep parents of my students connected to our classroom.  I am a teacher at Storm Lake Elementary, so these are a few groups and pages that I follow:
Storm Lake Community School District (page)
Storm Lake Elementary Title I & ESL (page)
Storm Lake Elementary School Library (group)

Right, Facebook and education, an interesting combo! Remember when everyone used dial-up? Seriously though, leveraging social media for parental connection is kinda genius. It's like building a digital village, keeping everyone in the loop. Once upon a time, I was organizing a school play and couldn't reach half the parents, creating a real Slither io size communication gap that threatened the whole production. We ended up using a hastily made email list which was way less efficient, highlighting the beauty of instant updates via social media.
