I love using Art to teach Math skills. It's a great addition to math manipulatives, especially when learning fractions and how to tell time. It allows students to engage with the material and demonstrate a deeper understanding of their knowledge by extending with a related art activity. Ex: Use paint, markers, and crayons to make your own clock.

I liked the article, Reframing Art by Rick Ludeman. Especially interesting to me was the section on connecting art to math. That just seems like a natural connection, and yet, I do not think we do it often. Perhaps it is because art in the schools is limited. We think about collaboration among core subject teachers but don’t think about including the arts teachers. This is something I am going to work on changing. If I know the concepts the arts teachers are working on, I can see how they can incorporated into my lessons.

I loved your post and I can't wait to use your website that you found! I already bookmarked it! I use art a lot in my math curriculum. It helps my students be able to relate what we are learning about with something they already know or it helps them learn something that is completely new to them. I also liked how the website listed the standards that outlined how VTS is already incorporated into math. This makes it even more essential and allows you to be able to focus on what students are seeing and how they are understanding the material.

I love how you incorporate this into teaching math. I am sure your students get a much deeper understanding and comprehension of your lessons being taught just by you simply using different learning styles to implement your teaching.

Thank you for bringing up that art is often not considered in collaborating lessons for our students. I think you're right! I'm not sure I have ever gone to my art teacher asking for ideas on how to incorporate more art or VTS - definitely something I need to improve on. Thanks for sharing that insight!

Students love having choices and this gives them a wide range of activities and medium to use. Great way to help them explore.
