What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
Offering students the opportunity to explore art ultimately assists them in developing their skill sets in being creative. Creativity allows students to think “outside the box” and encourages them to be unique and original in their problem solving ways. This will condition great leadership skills and allow them to observe others and the various problems solving options they will encounter. Students will also be trained to have focus as well as amplify their own voice to be heard. All of these skills will assist students in being more successful in their future career and academic choices.
What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art? Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom.
Currently in my Biology Class we utilize the Pear Deck app. It is very simplistic and user friendly for the students to utilize. Within the app there are various ways in which students can participate within the whole group discussions and answer questions presented to them. When we organize our presentation, we are sure to offer students options in how they respond, one of which being to draw out their answer, showing that they comprehend the information being provided to them. Other options include; typing the answer, multiple choice response, or sharing out loud to the class.
When students complete their standards based projects we also offer them the option to either create a powerpoint presentation or a poster. If students choose to do the poster they have free range on how they choose to go about creating, however, they are still expected to follow the rubric of information laid out for the remainder of the class. This again provides our students with the opportunity to think “outside the box” and explore an art-based avenue that will allow them to be successful in their course.
What are your "takeaways" from the article and videos?
I am beginning to see more and more how valuable of a tool art can be for me as an educator. I am also able to see how students have the opportunity to flourish more within each subject area when bridging art with other subjects. Another takeaway that I had in this unit was the numerous ways in which I can incorporate art for lessons and activities, and just how easy it would be to correlate within my science classes. Rockourworld.org was a neat and user friendly website that I feel would benefit my students as well in their creativity and exploration of any subject matter.
