What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
I am a firm believer in music therapy. I was going to be a double major in music therapy and education, but knew how long it would take, so I cut a major. I worked with an autistic student who had very little experience in music. We created our own song with hand-bells and presented it to everyone at our annual concert. We surprised the mother of said student and she still tells me that that was an awe inspiring learning experience, because so many people were not aware of this students abilities, not at all aware of what this student was capable of. She said that I changed the minds of many in the audience, making this students future that much brighter. Music, Art, and Theater can tap into things in every individual that can bring out so many things people don't even realize are there. All these things can develop their confidence and their skills...all part of the skills needed for developing their future and their career.
What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art?
I have used garageband to have students create their own songs. I have had students create their own dance moves to songs. I have had students record themselves performing either on their instruments or their own (or one that they selected) dramatic play/speech.
Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom.

Kandinsky is one of my favorite artists and I use him in my music classroom on the regular. Kids start out not understanding what he created, and towards the end, they understand and are creating their own originals. I feel by using arts integrated curriculum, students start using their critical thinking ideas and open up their minds to even more possibilities. A
I also believe that it is extremely important to use arts integration in the special education classrooms. Music therapy, arts therapy, they are all ways of arts integration.
