Gmail in the classroom

tboelens
In the Autism classroom that I work in we use Google email as a primary way to communicate directly with students, parents and other staff.  We also use google classroom to encourage independence by having students complete and turn in assignments.  In the upcoming year, I plan to implement Gmail organization by using folders and filters.  Areas include parent contacts, administration and home office contacts, and any miscellaneous emails that i may receive.

Students can benefit greatly from using gmail to become familiar with the features and functions of an email account, as this is a skill they will need after graduation. Students were able to have one-on-one conversations with me throughout the school year using Google Chat foodle, which was far more effective than emails that often got buried in the deluge of messages we instructors get on a daily basis.
